This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
These hard-working students attend a Title I city school and are 97% African American learners with a sustainable special education population. The majority of the students are functioning slightly below reading comprehension levels according to the district's projections. These students are low performing in the area of math. They are a fun-loving, creative group who are "owning" their learning as best they can. This community of learners is prepared to work to succeed; they understand their roles and responsibilities as it relates to their education.
My Project
My students can benefit from individualized Math practice workbooks to help support their learning. Currently, we are functioning without printed workbooks which makes it difficult for teachers, students and parents to track their progress.
Students need at home Math practice workbooks to reinforce grade level skills for improved achievement.
These workbooks will be used for at home math work that provide low income families with additional resources and support.
These families deserve to have a personal copy of a workbook to use as a reference point and to demonstrate their understanding of content. It is also important for my students to have the ability to reflect on successes and struggles displayed in their work samples. Please help to provide these math workbooks for some deserving 2nd grade families!
