This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come to me for intervention and support with reading, across elementary grade levels. They range from Kindergarten to Fifth grade and come with a variety of interests, strengths, and needs.
My students excel when given individualized, supportive materials that allow them to apply their new learning with independence.
This is part of our culturally responsive and sustaining practices.
My Project
These materials will allow my students to apply what they are learning in our small groups, both in school and at home. I teach a phonics-based reading program and work with General Education and Special Education students that are identified as struggling to make reading progress within the general education curriculum. One thing that I think is missing from the program is application to actual reading.
Highly supportive texts will allow my students to practice new learning with independence.
My students are often left feeling like learning is hard for them, but I know that with individualized instruction and appropriate materials, they will know the feeling of accomplishment.
