Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The youth that attend the school come from a poor neighborhood. The community has few opportunities and resources for a vast number of students. The neighborhood has lots of negative distractions such as gangs. It also has a lot of crime.

Despite many obstacles the youth show courage and display hope.

The few opportunities that they are exposed to, they show an eagerness to take advantage of them. When resources are found including counselors and mentors, students show growth. They also show positive change when exposed to better environments, such as on field trips and games.

My Project

The materials I am requesting will increase individual skill and overall team play. The heavy ball and vision googles will help the basketball team improve their dribbling, passing and ball handling skills. The socks will help the boys move better and prevent blisters and other foot problems. Floor spots will provide areas for the boys to improve their jump shot. A clipboard will help provide a visual aide for the team to see which game plays to run.

A competitive team provides inspiration that practice and hard work can pay off.

The boys will begin to recognize that they could apply this inspiration to all areas of their lives.
