This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Nearly 100% of my students are from low income and minority backgrounds. Many of my students come from single parent households so, even though they are only 15 or 16 years old, they either work or help raise their younger siblings. In addition, our school and our city is underfunded and under-resourced. Despite facing a myriad of challenges, most of my students persevere and still come to school daily with a smile on their face.
They value fairness, honesty, compassion, and loyalty.
They are at the age where they still laugh and play, but can have mature intelligent class discussions.
My Project
Every year I have to find creative ways to get the things I need in order for my students to be successful. Students deserve to learn in an environment where they are not hungry, that's clean, and where they never have to run out of basic classroom necessities. We run out of basic learning materials like pencils, ink pens, highlighters, and sharpeners quickly and its the teacher's responsibility to find a way to replace them. That is why I am requesting pencils, ink pens, highlighters, and sharpeners. Students come to school hungry a lot, or they may have a late lunch period and I like to make sure that hunger pains aren't a reason students aren't learning. Keeping the classroom clean is very important to help students stay focused, and it's important to help prevent students from spreading germs and missing school due to illness. The cleaning wipes will allow me to keep the classroom clean and germ-free for the students and allow them to have pride in their environment.
Many of my students live in environments where their basic needs aren't met, and I don't want this to be an issue when they come to my classroom.
When students have to focus on not having supplies, the next time they will eat, and learning in a dirty environment they miss out on valuable learning experiences. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, but you will also ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
