Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are hard workers who want more opportunities to grow and learn, but do not have all of the tools to do so. I teach third grade at an urban city school.

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.

These challenges may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me.

My Project

Everyday my students are called to the rug for explicit instruction on a concept in each subject. These requested materials will help improve student engagement during this time.

Student engagement encourages a positive, and creative school climate and culture.

Engaged students are more likely to perform well and are less likely to drop out of school as they get older.

The whiteboard paddles, white board pouches, dry erase markers, and erasers will help my students to quickly show their work, and have it checked so that I can give them immediate feedback on their performance. It is important for students to know how well they are doing as they learn. This is because the knowledge that they are doing well gives students a sense of achievement which motivates them to learn more. Similarly, it is also important to let students know when they have made a mistake so that they will learn from it and take corrective measures.

The clipboards and sticky notes will help students be a part of the lesson. I ask students to be a part of the learning by answers on sticky notes, and putting their answers on a chart. This helps the students feel that they are a part of the learning community and that they have a safe place to answer. This strategy gets 100% of my students answering and engaged in the learning.

My students deserve this materials so that they may continue to learn and grow!
