This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As an elementary school speech therapist, I work directly with over 50 students to improve their speech and language skills. My students are working on a variety of goals targeting their articulation, expressive and receptive language, fluency, social skills, etc. My students range from preschool to fourth grade and have a diverse range of special needs. Successful therapy with my students requires many resources the school is unable to provide. Many of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and may not have access to a variety of resources outside of school. Through this project, I hope to gather therapy materials that will help me improve my students' speech and language skills through engaging and fun therapy sessions.
My Project
As a new Speech Therapist fresh out of graduate school, I am in the process of gathering a variety of therapy materials to best help my students. Since my students are a variety of ages, I can use everything from a car ramp to higher level board games. Language-facilitating activities such as games and interactive toys are wonderful ways to motivate my students and get them talking. It is important to me to plan engaging and fun therapy sessions, so my students work hard and look forward to coming to speech. I look forward to planning therapy sessions with these fun new materials!
