My students need an expanded dramatic play area--a vet center, a cash register, a mailbox and a doctor's office. And a beautiful new rug for circle time!
Every morning, I pick up my 25 smiling students at 8:20 a.m. Our community is growing, and my goal is to fill our classroom with the opportunity for learning through play, an idea that I believe we need to nourish and expand. Join me on this journey--together through play, we can make a difference!
We are located in a small school district within the state of New Jersey.
Our community is a diverse one--culturally, ethnically and socioeconomically. This means we have many traditions and backgrounds represented, and so many ways to learn together. Each of my 25 students brings SO much love and energy. Every child in my classroom is so different, but that is what makes our classroom so unique! With this diversity comes a wide spectrum of learning styles, and as a small school, we often work together to collaborate and facilitate different types of learning. Our community is growing, which is a good thing, but we need to figure out creative ways to adapt during this time of great change.
My Project
How is the puppy? Does he need to go to the vet? How will we get him there? Who has a letter to mail? Did you remember to put a stamp on it? What about the food--who will ring up the bill? Who will pay for it and who will make the change? Children, like adults, master skills through exploration. My students ADORE dramatic play, and I believe it is a fantastic resource for them to learn to understand the world around them.
My students will use these new resources throughout the school day. The carpet will be used for whole group instruction, a vital part of our day. Over and over again you can hear me say, "Go find your carpet spots!" and the children race (OK, they walk) to the rug where we read, move, explore, jump, grow.
My students will practice collaboration and teamwork, also feelings and emotions, skills that often need more attention at the kindergarten level.
We will learn and grow through play!
The rug and dramatic play equipment will be fantastic.
I want my students to love learning!
These materials will allow them to enjoy each part of the school day! Thank you so much for your help in creating a classroom where my students love to learn. Your donation will make our fantastic space a better one.
My students have displayed a definite and sustained interest in dramatic play, so it is my goal to help them continue to grow in this area. Enhancing the materials that are available to them will increase their ability to dream and grow! :)
