My Students
Remember BORING lectures? I say "Not in APES!" I strive for a student-focused classroom where the students do the research themselves. Students learn more, appreciate, and understand environmental issues. Also, they have fun in the process as they feel ownership for what is done in class.
We are very excited to add AP Environmental Science to our course selection.
My class is composed of a very diverse group of juniors and seniors who enjoy a love of learning. They strive for the best and push themselves to achieve their goals. Many of our students come from a disadvantaged socioeconomic background. Our goal is to work towards increasing the availability of AP classes so that they reflect the diversity of our school.
My Project
Our AP Environmental Science course demands a strong field and laboratory component. The Logit Sensors, APES Lab kits, kick nets and many other field and lab supplies will be used to enrich field and inquiry based laboratory activities for my students. Also, by incorporating iPads into daily learning, our classroom will be transformed into a 21st Century learning environment that enhances critical thinking and a deeper understanding of the curriculum through interactive learning. Environmental productivity and field apps will allow us to use our time in class for problem-solving, collaboration and interaction. Thank you Donors Choose and Google for allowing us the opportunity to start a new AP Environmental Course.
The funding will help open the doors for more minority and female students to access a rigorous AP(ES) curriculum at our school.
