Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am currently a seventh/eighth grade middle school math teacher in a high needs area. My students are English Language Learners and the classroom would benefit from these basic supplies including, dry erase markers, Crayola markers, bulletin board sets, colored paper, pens, pencils, etc

My students have to overcome many language barriers, learn the English language and required school concepts with little or no help from their parents.

Their parents are unable to help them in the educational area due to lack of knowledge and understanding of the English language as well as knowledge of the required math concepts. My students work hard and often support their mothers and fathers by running household errands and watching younger siblings. Unfortunately, another thing that my students have in common is that their families are struggling financially. Within my school the majority of the students qualify for the state's free or reduced meal program. Due to the budget cuts schools are facing, teachers in my school are no longer able to personally give each student the resources they desire. Supplying my students/classroom with these materials would be a small step but it would give us one less obstacle to overcome.

My Project

As part of the curriculum, students are required to understand the many ideas and concepts of mathematics. I love doing hands on activities but my students are pre-teens and have a tendency to lose things. Pens, pencils, paper are vital necessities in any classroom and we are in desperate need. Reference materials/posters and dry erase markers are tools that can help everyday lessons. Supplying my classroom with a variety of basic school supplies would be a blessing for our classroom.

With your help our classroom will be more successful and run smoothly with these basic, necessary school supplies.

Thank you in advance for seeking out Donors Choose and supporting education.
