This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We work at a low-income school with students who are often in poverty for many reasons. Our demographic is those of kids in lower-income neighborhoods, some in foster care, group homes, or homeless, as well as those who have single family homes. This is called a Tile I school. We provide a lot of materials for our students. Paper costs being one of them. This project goes to just our AVID learning classes where we are lucky enough to have three teachers to teach the kids about college and carrier learning to help them prepare for life outside of school.

Our students are often of the mindset of this is as good as it gets, the college and career classes open them up to other opportunities, showing them many different types of after-high school life choices they can take.

The team for these classes brings in different people to share their lives and how they evolved to the careers they got. The teachers also have projects for the kids which require a lot of printing paper to help the students plan out different choices they have for after school.

This year's projects the teachers paid on their own for their own printing paper. We would like to have the paper for next year as the school only provides us with one box per teacher to make it all year. This will go right to helping educate our youth on what they can do after school is over.
