My Project

As I've been participating in the two year LETRS literacy instruction professional development, I've gained important insight to current research around language development. As such, my instruction in morphology and writing need to adapt to better meet the needs of my students. My goal is to enhance my instruction by combining the knowledge I've gained about the science of reading with high-yielding instructional materials.

Language development is crucial for ongoing literacy success in all content areas.

Therefore, I've found multiple student-centered resources on Teachers Pay Teachers that not only support research-based language development, but they make it fun and memorable for the students as well. I've carefully selected resources that are fun, but highly meaningful in engaging cross-curricular language connections. While some are more game-based, others are high-interest texts and writing frameworks and activities that capture student attention. This promotes retention, engagement, and learning for all students in an equitable way, while maintaining the high rigor necessary to make a difference in improving their language growth.

My students are incredibly special because they love to learn. Whenever they learn a new vocabulary word, many of them cannot wait to incorporate it into their writing or daily conversations- it's incredible! This level of curiosity and love for language is what will empower these resources to have the greatest impact possible.
