My students are absolutely amazing in every way. Our class is complete with 25 enthusiastic, curious, and animated first graders from a range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our class is an integrated co-teaching (ICT) classroom meaning that a portion of our students have special needs. Our needs range from speech and language disorders to autism but none of the labels stop any of the students from trying their hardest and always exceeding expectations. These 25 students are dedicated and excelling in the classroom is the norm!
Our class of students are a unique, clever, determined, and persistent bunch with a range of interests and needs - making each and every lesson new and exciting!
My co-teacher and I take a very hands-on approach to education which allows students to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.
My Project
When thinking about schools and learning we often focus on reading, writing and math, but I strongly believe that art and science play a huge role in creating a well-rounded student ready to embark into the world. These materials will not only help my students use their creative side but will also help me in teaching problem solving and communication with peers. Some of the best learning in classrooms happens when students don't even realize they are learning simply because they are highly engaged and motivated and all around having a blast.
These art materials and building basics will help my students engage with math, science, art and engineering all while having fun and working together.
The playdoh will be used in a variety of ways--from building words to building bridges. The pipe cleaners, tape and straws will be used for STEM Challenges where students will be given a famous building or monument from around the world and will have to replicate it with their materials. The watercolor paper will be used weekly during our read and watercolor lessons.
