Carter G. Woodson once said, "Readers are Leaders, and Leaders are Readers."
I teach fourth grade in a low income, Title ! school. Many needs are evident in my school and especially in my classroom. Let me share some of the basic needs with you. There are field trips that we would like to go on, but cannot, because most of the parents cannot afford the cost, and our school is on a very limited budget. Many times we are forced to ration copy paper because supplies run out before the year is over.
The three computers in my classroom work 25 percent of the time. They are either out of virtual memory, or freeze up every time the students attempt to use them.
Currently, the school cannot afford to purchase ink for all the teachers who have printers in their classroom, so now we have to purchase ink ourselves.
About 50 percent or more of my students have not purchased basic school supplies as yet. I had to purchase composition books for those who did not have any. The list could go on.
Materials and supplies are necessary for any classroom setting. Every classroom setting needs basic tools, and materials that help students successfully complete daily assignments and tasks. These basics are lacking in my school.
You can make a difference in my students lives by contributing to their learning experience. Any resource you can contribute, will go a long way to enhance the learning process. If you would like to adopt a class, please consider mine. We have many needs.
