My Students
Many of my fifth grade students are significantly behind their peers in Math. We have on-line intervention programs and apps that will help them to close the achievement gap, but not enough technology, manipulatives, flash cards, games, or lamentation machines, and other materials for them to use these interventions.
They all qualify for Title I and free breakfast and lunch.
They come to school with very little exposure to technology or any other items necessary to be successful in Math and Science. Many have had no preschool experience. About 3/4 of my students enter school significantly behind their peers from more affluent areas, and this learning gap increases every year.
My Project
They will use the math games, flash cards and manipulatives that I have requested in centers to reinforce their math skills. The printer ink is needed for printing. These items will help to keep their excitement level up in math. By working in center groups they learn social skills, and math skills are improved by not only playing the games and utilizing these materials, but through the scaffolding they provide for each other. Additionally, students who understand the subject matter can obtain mastery level by teaching those in their group who are struggling.
The donations to this project will improve my classroom by providing resources that will help all my students to understand the importance of math in their lives.
Having a strong math background will help my students to become confident in their abilities and have a firm understanding of the importance of taking an active role in their own learning.
