I work at a suburban elementary school is the middle of the country that serves students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Our community is a college town that serves a major university. Students come from all socio-economic backgrounds. We have students that struggle to know where the next meal is coming from to students that travel the world. With this wide variety of student life experiences, it creates unique challenges and amazing opportunities to build learning communities that work.
My Project
Last year our Makerspace was given an old 3D printer. We've had students from OU come out to work with all students on learning to 3D design and they have taken on the challenge whole heartedly. The amount of engineering happening in our school is amazing. When students create a design of their own, I print it.
My queue of student designed 3D prints to be created is more than 70 designs long!
Unfortunately, with the printer we have many more prints are failing than are completing. The company that made our 3D printer has gone out of business and replacement parts are not available. To order parts to even attempt to do a hodgepodge fix-it job, is a 1/3 of the price of this printer. I have kids creating amazing designs and they are having to wait forever to see if I can even get our printer to make their design. Please help our kids continue on their journey into 3D modeling.
