My Students
Help us help these children go places they never dreamed possible. A new iPad will allow them to take one more step towards that dream by giving them the ability to learn math and science through a technology platform.
Proficiency in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) is necessary for students to be successful in their future careers.
Yet, currently my students' exposure to technology consists of shared access to two Computers and two iPads that are older than they are and unusably slow. My scientists and mathematicians attend a large, public elementary school in a big Texas city. Because our district does not provide transportation to students living within two miles of school, many of my fourth graders walk to and from school including crossing major intersections. My students come from a variety of backgrounds and educational experiences, however, the vast majority are at least one and a half years behind in math and science proficiency.
My Project
My students need 1 new iPad and 3 iPad covers in order to complete a technology workstation which will provide them with a student centered activity in which they can independently utilize all of the technology driven resources our school district offers.
This type of workstation not only offers remediation, but enrichment as well.
Being able to differentiate instruction for all levels of student readiness is one of the most critical components in teaching. Our school district subscribes to an online program called Imagine Math which allows teachers to customize a student's pathway so that each student are receives the appropriate level of rigor.
