My Students
I teach at a Title I school where our entire student population is eligible for free breakfast and lunch. We have a very diverse student body with 14% of our students being English language learners. Each of our students brings a wealth of cultural experiences to the table.
Our school's mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment in which we will build a productive and successful community that learns and lives with hō’ihi (respect), kuleana (responsibility), and koa (courage).
We have strong family and community involvement. Help me continue to prepare our students for the future!
My Project
As a result of the pandemic, many of my students are lacking the math fact fluency they need to be successful in fifth grade and beyond. In order to close the gap in what they know and what they need to know, we need to squeeze math in wherever and whenever we can. Enter: MATH GAMES!
Math games are a great way to help students develop their math fact fluency in a fun way.
The math wraps are perfect for students who are still working to master addition and subtraction facts to practice and check their work independently or in small instructional groups.
Additionally, playing games will help my students improve their abilities to plan, organize, get along with others, and regulate emotions. These are critical social emotional skills that will help them far beyond the math classroom.
