Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a high poverty school in Hartford, CT. My students come into my classroom every day excited to learn! They come from different backgrounds and with different learning difficulties. This year, I have a group of 24 hardworking fifth graders in my class. These students give their best to every assignment and love learning! We are in need of basic school materials in order to keep up the amazing work we have been doing so far this school year.
My Project
My students could benefit from new dry erase markers, coloring supplies, and card stock. We are running low on supplies as the middle of the year is approaching.
Math fact fluency practice helps students to be successful in more difficult fifth grade math skills such as multiplication, decimals, fractions, and long division.
My students look forward to our daily math sprint. They have two minutes to solve 44 math facts. Afterwards, we graph our scores and focus on improving daily. Our dry erase markers are running low because we have been using them daily since August!
Another item that we would greatly appreciate in our classroom is card stock. On the last Friday of each month, the whole fifth grade comes together for a mini assembly. Each fifth grade student receives an award for a variety of character traits. These awards range from Amazing Artist to Math Master to Fantastic Friend! The students look forward to our award ceremony and work hard all month to receive the award they are striving for. We are in need of card stock in order to keep printing these awards for students.
