My students hail from a suburban environment. We are a Title I School that draws students from a variety of backgrounds with our PBI, EL, Early Preschool Intervention, and ERR programs. We are a Pre-school-grade 5 building that opened in the year 2000. In my classroom this year, we have families that speak Spanish, Russian, and English. We have refugees, immigrants, and native Idahoans. Our reading skills range from pre-K to 12.9+ levels. Some of us are new to scissor skills and some have only used technology in the school setting.
My Project
Today’s students will grow up to be tomorrow’s designers. Everything we are surrounded by: our buildings, cars, cities, and fashions were created through the designs of artists. We need to provide artistic literacy for our children, to introduce aesthetics, appreciation, and the ability to learn from what has already been created. With the art DVDs and the reproductions of the masters, every child can be presented with the opportunity to broaden their artistic horizons and background of knowledge about visual art. This will be that trip to the Guggenheim or the Louvre that most of them will never take in real life.
