it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Dance is not a very common subject to be taught in a school in Chicago, let alone to Middle Schoolers. These students, after only having dance for a few years, have grown a LOVE for Dance. They have chosen to have Dance once a day, everyday, instead of any other Art form or Physical Education Class. These students have surpassed any expectation I could have for a middle school dance class. They have grown exponentially as dancers and as people in a very short time. I look forward to working with these students every single day!
My Project
In our classroom of 32 middle school students, we are unable to fully dance and have a formal ballet classroom because of lack of space. We have students dancing everywhere in the room without ballet barres and mirrors in the correct places. Students are forced to do small ballet movements and are unable to fully stretch their movements. Also, learning from another teacher will benefit these students by working on their technique and skills in a different way. Lastly, the students will have the experience of dancing with a live accompanist!!!
This field trip will give these students the experience of being in a formal dance studio.
