Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The ability to measure is a basis for all science. Without the proper tools to measure mass, distance, and time, science would not be credible. With measurement equipment, my students will be able to learn and perform the basic lab techniques needed to achieve in science.

I teach in a charter school located in the Los Angeles area.

The majority of my students are economically disadvantaged minority students with the goal to make a difference and attend a college. Most of my students will be the first in their families to go to college. Since students like mine are underrepresented in science degree programs and science professions, it is important to me to ensure that all my students get as much exposure to science as possible. Given the situation my students live in, they are not exposed to any real science at home or in their community and it is up to me to make sure that their classroom science experiences are exciting enough to inspire them to pursue some kind of science, engineering, technology, or math profession. Although difficult, I am confident that, by providing the fun, hands-on science activities each year, I will be to make the science experience motivating and enriching.

My Project

With balances, timers, and calculators, my students we will be able to understand mass, find the density of objects, record time, calculate speed and velocity, investigate motion, and so much more. Measurement is the cornerstone to scientific investigations, engineering, technology, and mathematics. Students need to be able to be familiar with the basic equipment in order to perform their own inquiries.

It is essential to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics for students to acquire the needed experience and skills with measurement tools.

Please help my students become acquainted with the basic needed equipment for scientific investigation. Students need the hands-on skills to become motivated to learn, achieve and pursue science, engineer, technology, and mathematics.
