Massive Makerspace 3D Printer

My students need a LulzBot TAZ 6 3D Printer. This beast of a printer will unlock a plethora of educational opportunities and technological experiences for these kids.

What we are asking for is big, expensive and very advanced - yet it has the power to change these kids' lives.

I have an amazing group of fourth graders who would love to explore engineering and design in more tangible ways. They are deeply skilled in spatial reasoning and love to problem solve. These students are able to use Tinkercad (a 3D Design program) to create California Missions, gears, doorstops, household items and so much more. The only problem is - it takes too long to print their designs with only having one 3D Printer. Furthermore, we want to provide 3D printing opportunities to all the kids at our school - not just my class.

My Project

At my school, we are privileged to have an entire room dedicated to the purpose of creating a makerspace. We have a group of teachers, parents, and students who are devoted to making this space awesome, engaging, and creative. Our desire is to have ALL kids (K-5) working, creating, building, coding, and designing in the Makerspace. We want to have a 3D Printing center, consisting of 3 main printers. However, the cost of these machines is beyond our budget.

Having the LulzBot TAZ 6 3D printer would unlock thousands of possibilities for students in the realms of art, science, and technology.

We love the printer we currently have; moreover, the small print bed only allows for a few designs to be printed at a time. This makes it impossible to complete a whole class project in a timely manner. Therefore, many projects have been delayed or not even printed. The 3D Printing club has been canceled for this very reason.

Donations towards this project will allow students to engage with the process of design, and pursue learning that is relevant, exciting, and challenging. Having a 3D printing station in our Makerspace will revolutionize the way kids see and interact with science and technology.
