it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
What would a classroom look like if I never had to hear, “Miss, I forgot my pencil or school supplies”? I don't know, but I hope to find out in the 2025–2026 school year through Maslow’s Toolbox—a personalized kit for each student stocked with pencils, highlighters, sharpeners, and more.
In our recent English Language Arts unit, my students studied Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, learning how basic needs must be met before higher learning can occur.
For many students—especially Black and Brown youth from historically marginalized communities—access to basic supplies is not guaranteed. This gap highlights systemic inequities that affect their daily learning experiences. Maslow's Toolboxes will foster independence, reduce disruptions, and build essential self-management skills.
While we can’t control what happens outside school, in this classroom every student will feel prepared, valued, and empowered to succeed.
