This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a K- 8th-grade public school with a very high immigrant population and a Title I school in Illinois where ninety-eight percent of students speak Spanish as their primary language. All of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch and come from low-income households. The classroom setting is co-teaching general education teacher and special education teacher, including 5th/6th grade students with special educational services and English Language Learners. Differentiation is needed on a daily basis to meet their needs in reading, writing, and social-emotional.
My students are eager to learn and love to learn.
Their positive energy and confidence are my inspiration and motivation to continue my career in education.
My Project
The chapter books will make a difference in our students' learning by introducing them to equally enriching yet more compounded story telling that helps develop inferential reading skills.
The students learning outcomes will be building their listening skills and the cognizance of an arc of storytelling.
Also the students will be using their imaginations more without seeing pictures.
Students will also learn how to vocalize their own though process and help them deepen their reading comprehension, gives them the opportunity to experience the world in a way that they may not have done before, and vocabulary skills and staying engaged while reading.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
