This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a group of energetic scholars. They are eager learners who are ready to take on the challenges of the 21st century. They are young people that simply need the resources to stimulate their creative minds.

With support from hard-working families, my students have to balance their rigorous academic work while navigating through rough transitions and living through a pandemic.

Regardless of the issues they face on a daily basis, they have goals, drive, and most importantly, they are hungry for knowledge. They possess great aspirations for change in their neighborhood, our country, and the world.

My Project

I am requesting medical grade, safe, and disposable comfortable face masks. In the last three weeks, our school district has seen approximately 68,000 Covid-19 positive cases. Luckily, these were caught during baseline testing before the start of the Spring semester earlier this week.

However, we are now confronted with the fact that the Omicron variant is highly contagious and some of our students simply do not have access to quality facial coverings to keep them safe.

Over the last week, I have found that some students are still using facial cloth masks or coverings that are not medical grade or they are reusing masks that are meant to be disposable. These practices are not sanitary and put them at a higher risk for contagion, but masks are costly for many of our families and they have to make do.

Our school has been provided limited numbers of masks, but it is my goal to provide students in need a clean, medical grade mask to keep them safe each and every day.
