My Students
My students live in one of the poorest zip codes in Brooklyn, NY. Some are in foster care, live in shelters, or in government housing. Now that my students are coming back from staying at home for an extended period of time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I would like to engage them in activities that will continue to promote the skills needed to participate in school-related activities successfully.
My 30 plus students range in age from 4 to 13 years old, with various learning disorders.
I am their OT and provide occupational therapy services as per their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). My students are diagnosed with Intellectual Disability, Autism, Emotional Disturbance, visual impairment, and other physical disorders like Developmental coordination disorder (DCD). Having these materials will help them feel regulated, engaged and build necessary skills to meet their educational goals and build greater independence!!
My Project
My students need a variety of supports during therapy and in the classroom setting for independence. A quality printer can support and create interactive visual aids during therapy sessions and in the classroom.
This will help the students by promoting problem-solving skills and independence.
This printing tool will print out “First and Then cards” to help with the school routine and “Sensory Paths” for movements-based activities. This printer will provide a variety of learning experiences for my students. This printing device will allow me to print worksheets to set up exercises for the students to practice skills at home and during the occupational therapy sessions. This material will be greatly appreciated!
