This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As you know, math takes time and practice with hands-on manipulatives, not only worksheets. My special needs (Alternate Curriculum) students are learning their numbers and learning what the numbers actually mean. At the beginning of the year we work on and practice identifying, writing, matching, and writing numbers. Some students are working on the concepts of 1-5 while others are working on adding and subtracting in the 1000's! Students will be able to use school safe gluesticks rather than the messy glue bottles to match numbers and quantities.

We want the students to use manipulatives to understand numerals, place value, adding, and subtracting, all of which are very difficult concepts for students with IEP's to understand.

The materials requested will help with place value because students will use the base ten pieces to build numbers. These counting tools will help students visually see and manipulate addition and subtraction in a very tangible way.
