My Students

Do you remember how thrilling and enriching class trips were? I want my students to be transfixed by the amazing quilt exhibit at the American Folk Art Museum.

I teach a group of dynamic second graders in a Title 1 school in Brooklyn.

They love sock monkeys, kazoos, folk tales, our pirate puppet, fun socks, reading, math games and learning about art. I teach my class about a different artist each week. They absolutely adore learning about art and they talk about it all the time. Art truly is a big part of our classroom community.

My Project

I recently could not stop smiling while I was viewing the quilt exhibition at the American Folk Art Museum. My students will be learning about geometry in April. I would love for my students to be able to learn about geometry while viewing the quilts at the museum! This trip would also teach them about folk art. It would be a wonderful opportunity for my class to learn about math and art at the same time! I plan on having my students make their own quilt designs using cut out shapes after the trip.
