My Project

These books will help me start a collection of math picture books so my students can begin to see the real-life math connections in print. Picture books are a great way to introduce concepts or to start conversations around difficult concepts. I would like my classroom library to be a place that my students enjoy! We gather on the rug to read and discuss literature. My students love to listen to stories here, share stories they have written, work in small groups, and discuss what they have learned during book groups.

All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind-They love making connections, predictions, or sharing their thoughts on what we are reading.

When I use picture books to help introduce challenging math concepts, it helps my students feel relaxed, open-minded, and more likely to take risks. Especially the students for whom math is not a preferred activity.

With these new books and bookcases, I can continue to make my classroom a cozy and inviting space. This is my first year back in a classroom after teaching science for 20 years and the classroom did not come with any bookcases, so right now we are using tubs. Having a cozy spot to read, new books and a proper bookcase will help show students how much reading is valued in my classroom. The older worn-out bins are not as inviting as a colorful comfortable space with adequate storage. Please help my students love of learning grow and flourish through good books and creative comfy space.
