This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title I school, with 90% of our students on free or reduced-price meal plans. We have many English Language Learner (ELL) students at our school. Over half of my students are ELL students. Our students come from working families and families who speak other languages at home. Some parents are not able to communicate in English with us, but we do have Spanish-speaking translators on site.

Our staff is very caring and committed to providing a nurturing, fun, and engaging classroom for all our students.

We want students to know that we will be there for them and give them as much as we possibly can. One great thing about our school is that we have one-to-one devices, iPads or Chromebook computers. For many students, this is the first time they have been able to use and engage with today's technology.

My Project

My project is inspired by Science Everywhere Challenge from Mrs. Mianowski's project. I have been wanting to send home hands-on math manipulative and fun math tools, so my students can practice their math skills. These math materials will be put into "Take Home Bags" and sent home with students who need to practice various math skills. Each bag will include math games and manipulatives for different math concepts and skills and will go home for students to practice with their families.

All these supplies are all hands-on to make learning fun and involve the families of my students!

The base ten blocks will help my students understand place value. The take-home folder games will work well with my students and their families as these games will create less stress on these basic math skills. Families will get to see their Childs mind and work and help them as needed. Like Mrs. Mianowski said, "When school and home connect, learning soars higher!" STEM is also a big part of my class. Having my students practice the "M" for math will truly make STEM time for meaningful.
