My students have a wide range abilities. However, I also service students who are diagnosed with a variety of other abilities: Autism, Learning Disabled (LD) Language Impaired (LI), Emotionally Disabled (ED), Extreme Giftedness. They all have varied learning styles and abilities. I would love for my students to have a variety of fine motor, gross motor and sensory options available to them within our Special Education classroom!
Our school is the best place to learn and my students feel loved every day they walk into my classroom.
Since there are a wide range of abilities within our Special Education Department, there too, must be a wide range of activities that are unique to a variety of learners. One of my students is unable to hold a pencil or writing utensil without assistance. Therefore, playing with, and manipulating Playdough, helps to strengthen the muscles in his hands. This then helps him, along with others like him, be able to use more fine motor objects throughout the school year. Some other students require additional assistance with gross motor activities due to poor motor planning, among other gross motor concerns.
My Project
Motivating students to love math can always be a challenge. However, when presented in a fun and exciting way, students believe they are just having fun! The math materials I have requested will give each of my students opportunities to have fun while learning at the same time. I want nothing more for my students than to have then reach the "Aha" moments while in my classroom.
What a great opportunity to learn math concepts when you're having fun!
Using math in the classroom will help the students understand the importance of math in the real world. As students get older, they will be able to take with them the math skills learned in the early years in my classroom. I feel being able to teach my students a variety of math senses will afford them the ability to grow and understand and recognize simple math concepts in the real world.
