This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember your first "Ah ha!" moment? My students desperately needs new math materials that will help them discover their own "Ah ha!" moments.

The children that I teach are living in very low socio-economic situations.

They are faced with many challenges that most of us never have to encounter. These students are mainly responsible for themselves when they walk out of the school each day. They also struggle with math because of their lack of real life experiences with numbers. Despite all of the hardships they face, the 3rd graders in my class are sweet, kind, and caring children. They demonstrate compassion and empathy towards their peers. They are also excited about learning and truly love coming to school because its so much better than being at home.

My Project

The materials that I have requested for the classroom will give the children experiences with numbers that they have lacked in their lives. These math centers will give students all the skill-building practice they need to master fractions, geometry, measurement, place value, multiplication, division and more! More importantly, I want math to become a time challenging yet fun activities that ignite a passion for critical thinking and problem solving.

Our country is currently far behind many others in the areas of Math and Science.

I am hoping that together, we can increase the interest levels in these areas one classroom at a time and make a difference in the world. The next great inventor, mathematician, ecologist, or doctor might be in my classroom waiting to be inspired.
