Marvelous Math Materials for Magnificent Mathematicians

My students need 20+ math supplies and math literature books to supplement the four centers we do daily.

My Students

Do you remember memorizing math facts when you were in school? Well, my students are still expected to know their math facts, but they want to learn them the fun way!

I have a class of 21 bilingual students.

They spend half of the day learning in English and half of the day in Spanish in order to promote bilingualism. Math is taught in Spanish at our high-poverty school in an urban school district, however, they will be expected to be performing at or near grade level in English within the next few years. With that being said, the more advanced they can get in math now, the easier it will be for them to transfer those skills to English.

My Project

We are asking for math games and manipulatives to use during our 4-block math. Each day students practice math facts, solve story problems, inspect equations and play math games. The only problem is we do not have any math games that are reaching their current level. We also are asking for math picture books in English to begin to develop vocabulary in English to be transferred later.

Our project is important because it will help us to have a more interactive math block and it will help us to build fluency without memorizing them or doing flashcards.

The long term impact is that all future classes will be able to benefit from the use of these materials.
