My students need math manipulatives to engage in parents as learning partners math games. They will use the manipulatives to play addition and subtraction games with their parents.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is an energetic, excited and overwhelmingly enthusiastic group of first graders. They love coming to school and interacting with their peers and teachers.

They are a funny, dedicated, and inquisitive group of students who run into the classroom and don't want to leave!

They are six and seven-year-old students who need lessons and activities to keep them engaged in learning. Our school is a new school with pre-kindergarten through second grade students. Our school has a high population of English Language Learners, Special Education students, and students from various cultural backgrounds. Our students need a high level of support for them to learn at their best.

My Project

My young first graders are enthusiastic learners that enjoy engaging in learning time with their parents.

The students will use the base-10 blocks, dice, rekenreks, and counters during parent engagement time.

I would like to start a program called parents as learning partners in my classroom. This will be a time when parents come in for learning time with their children. They will work with them and the classroom manipulatives to help learn math skills. My hope is that the parents will understand how they can help their child at home if they see how we implement math in the classroom.

The students will use the base-10 blocks to help the, learn about place value. They will use the rekenreks to learn addition and subtraction concepts.

Our school is a new school and so our funds are going towards purchasing furniture not math manipulatives.
