My Students

My students are funny, smart, and try so hard to learn and please their teacher. My class is diverse and there are many students whose first language is not English. Having hands-on tools available to them is crucial to the success of their learning. They get so excited when I tell them, "We will be learning something new today."

Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most important weapon which you can use to change the world." I hope that through the education my students receive, this is something they will take away at the end of the year.

My students especially love it when I bring out the hands-on learning tools available in our classroom. It is so fun to watch their minds grow and expand as they are manipulating objects that help to solidify the difficult concepts taught in first grade. In addition to teaching my students content from the core, I am trying to teach them that education is powerful, that it will get them anywhere they want to go, and that it will help them to change the world.

My Project

My students love small groups because they are able to explore content they have just learned using hands-on activities. Math is one of their favorite subjects and they especially enjoy playing with all of the fun, engaging math games and activities in our classroom. This year, I have decided I would like to incorporate our Listening Center during small group math instruction. The Building Math Skills LIstening Center kits that have been requested in this project will provide my students with guided instruction, while allowing them to explore some of the difficult concepts taught in first grade. Students will use the kits to practice and eventually master skills such as addition, subtraction and counting.

Children learn best by doing and exploring, my goals as their teacher is to provide them with as many opportunities to do this as possible.

Donations to this project will help my students feel and be successful in our classroom.
