Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our class is comprised of 32 second graders whom are heterogeneously mixed. Students are from various ethnic backgrounds and speak different languages. They are mostly from low socioeconomic backgrounds. They have a strong belief in justice and fairness. I build upon these ideals to create a community of learners. The class rules are built around this and so are the consequences and rewards.
We have a growth mindset philosophy.
This helps each student understand that the hard work and feeling of pride is the greatest reward.
My Project
My students must meet the demands of a rigorous second grade math curriculum. At the same time, they will be working in small groups or independently to gain mastery of previous skills.
Math manipulatives are the most engaging and exciting way to bring math concepts and problems to life for young children.
They are the perfect size for manipulation and they are safe to use.
These kits will allow students to touch and make the abstract more concrete. There are many topics covered in this individual student kit. The materials will aid in remediation as well as enrichment.
