My Project

One of the biggest concepts that is researched and used in teaching is modeling, and using a excellent mentor text is a important tool in order to model efficiently while teaching language arts.

I have chosen books based on the Grade 4 Common Core Standards for Langauge Arts that will allow me to not only teach my students the skills expected, but foster interest, engagement, and real life connections.

My students deserve to be exposed to a huge variety of texts that we can then reuse for many lessons as a familiar read- like how "The Day the Crayons Quit" can be used to teach point of view, opinion writing, and character traits. I also love being able to demonstrate to my students how a short "children's" book like "I Want My Hat Back" can actually be used to find hidden deeper meanings and practice high level thinking skills.
