Help me give my students more reading opportunities in reading books in the graphic novel format, like the DC Icons Series. Most of the graphic novels we have in our library are older, and in very bad shape.
As the librarian in a low-income/high poverty middle school, many of my students are faced with various challenges both in and out of the classroom. Parents often cannot afford or do not choose for their student to have reading materials at home. Many families do not guide and encourage their students to read for enjoyment or learning.
Offering books of different formats in our library will offer more reading enjoyment opportunities.
Our graphic novels section in desperate need of help!
My Project
The students love our graphic novels section in the library, but many of the selections we currently have are old or worn out. These books are continually checked out, and many are held together with book tape. Some have been discarded because they are in such poor condition. Having some newer graphic novels will allow me to finally throw away some of the ones we have kept because students begged not to let them go.
Having a selection of new graphic novels will allow my students to choose books that interest them.
Many students will not choose books from the library because they say they cannot find any they are interested in. These graphic novels will offer more choice for them.
