Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The Middle School Library is a place where all of the students are welcome and visit often. Although many of my students might come from low-income homes and speak English as their second language, this does not stop them from being brilliant, creative, and curious learners that use the library as a place to channel their ambitions.

In our library, we welcome all students to design, create, and build the future they imagine for themselves.

Students spend time reading, building digital literacy, and creating things in a Makerspace.

My Project

These materials will help to replenish and expand the Makerspace we have been using in our Library for the past few years. The Makerspace in the Library is one of my students' favorite lessons and activities. Students use the Makerspace for design challenges and service-learning projects. Using the makerspace helps build critical thinking and problem-solving skills, while also giving them a chance to flex their creative abilities. Students will be able to collaborate with other students, ask questions, plan projects, and test hypotheses.

My students love making and being creative!

Being a part of a space to make, create, and imagine helps build critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Additionally, students that feel comfortable and have a desire to be in the library have greater access to literature and increase their reading ability.
