Martians in the Classroom

Help me give my students a copy of The Martian to each student for 2025 school year. We are completing the science and engineering projects that go along with this book.

My Project

I teach a high school gifted seminar class in a small high school. I have previewed the book The Martian, and love how I can integrate reading, critical thinking, engineering, chemistry, science and math all from one book. Since my class is a seminar class, I need to reach all areas of giftedness. My students love to work together to problem solve. The Martian offers great opportunities as the main character spends most of his time problem solving.

I would prefer to give each student their own copy of the novel to teach them how to make notes in the margins, a skill many will need in college.

Most of gifted students are college bound, some with an interest in space exploration. This book offers a great opportunity to expand on grade school projects like Mission to Mars at a high school level.
