My Project
Imagine exploring an ancient market set in Rome or Egypt! Third graders spend the year researching and learning about five ancient civilizations: Greece, Rome, China, Egypt and Mali. During the school year, they are collecting information about the people and geography of those places. They answer questions such as: Was Ancient Greek democracy a success? Did the benefits of the Nile River outweigh the costs?
As a culminating project, students work in small groups to pick a civilization, decide upon a good or service that would have been available during that time period (some students even put a modern twist on it), and create a marketing plan. In the past, students have created items such as pinch pots from Ancient Greece, raffled off a mini Colosseum and even made a photo backdrop to represent the pyramids of Ancient Egypt.
This is a super exciting project for our students and one they have been told about as a kind of "right of passage" event for third graders!
