I teach at an amazing school with very creative, active and eager to learn students in an urban school district in Ohio. My number one goal as a teacher is to build a classroom community where each and every student feels welcome and safe to take the risks needed to become the best learner and leader that they can be. I want them to be able to collaborate with others and problem solve in all areas of their life.
Risk, trust, challenge, cooperation, and problem-solving are the five core values that the staff, and students of our school teach, learn and live by every day.
By teaching these core values from an early age we are building a community of learners and leaders who will not only support one another but also challenge each other to reach for the stars.
My Project
The Cricut Maker will be an amazing addition to our classroom. The Cricut will allow students to expand their creativity with projects big and small. Each year our 4th-grade students learn about Entrepreneurship. During this unit, each student designs and produces a product to sell on Market Day. The Cricut product will allow students to cut out on vinyl, fabric, and other materials.
With the Cricut, students will have the opportunity to design individual products and create posters or design their own T-shirts with their business logos that will advertise their products before the Market Day event.
The Cricut will also benefit the teachers at our school. We will be able to quickly design engaging bulletin boards, add motivational quotes to the hallways and bathroom mirrors, create labels to keep the classroom space organized, make mentor charts to utilize in the classroom, and personalize items that welcome students on the first day of school. No more spending hours after school to trace and cut out individual letters for a bulletin board or handwriting labels to organize the classroom.
