We are a small, rural school with a big heart for our kids. Many of our students are poor, qualifying for free or reduced price lunch. Knowledge can be a great equalizer for disadvantaged kids, helping them gain valuable skills that will help them overcome their socioeconomic status.
Because of the poor area in which we live, there are students who don't have access to even the most basic of school supplies because they can't afforded them.
School is a place where they can have the materials they need to bridge the poverty and technology divide.
Having the basic supplies, like a pair of scissors for every student seems silly, but is important to make the best use of our classroom time.
We're always scrounging to find enough supplies, which hinders the flow of our creativity and learning, it would be awesome to have enough for everyone.
If everyone has their own materials, then we can move faster through our activities. The same for markers. Sharing the few "good" black markers takes extra time away from our creating. Having markers to use to write ideas down on our idea board is also something that we need.
