Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I count myself lucky. I am lucky I get to work with amazing students who care about their education. Students here are attending a Title I school. We have over 20 languages spoken in our school, and most students come from one of 30 different countries.
They have little money available to them and, with that, fewer life experiences.
They desperately want to learn and do projects that answer the question why, but have little guidance outside of school and few resources to fund their dreams.
Although they have few resources, they have big hearts and even brighter futures. School starts at 8:45 and ends at 3:15. Many of my students arrive at 8:00 and leave my class around 4:00. They are always asking to learn more and for help to get farther ahead.
My Project
I have been able to teach in a title one school these last 13 years! One thing I have learned it that we need dry erase markers and sharpies! We need dry erase for almost every subject; math, science, reading, writing, and more. It saves so much on paper and is so engaging for my students to use in class. Sharpies are used many times in art to outline and empathizes their art and makes the things that matter to them pop in their art. We need more supplies just to keep our classroom running normally so we can grow and learn.
