This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students could be depressed. I would forgive them. Our school is in a low-income neighborhood filled with industrial businesses and cracked sidewalks. But my kids walk in with optimism. They know their physical neighborhood doesn't define them.
They refuse to be limited by their surroundings.
However, it would be great if we could give them the supplies and equipment they need to succeed. Supplies that aren't dog-eared and falling apart, and equipment that isn't older than their parents.
My students rise to any occasion. They've lived through things I can't even imagine and still come to class with a smile on their faces. I want to help them as much as I can, by giving them access to a rigorous curriculum, essential technology, and reflective personal development.
My Project
My last successful Donors Choose project was some amazing chart paper, which I have been putting to use.
Now it's time to get some new markers!
My old, dried up markers just won't cut it. These new markers come in a variety of colors. Students will use these markers to make posters presenting their ideas. Whether it's analyzing the Rhetorical Situation using the SOAPSTone strategy, or creating a group response list using the Quick Review discussion technique, or simply answering reading comprehension questions and doing a Gallery Walk, these markers will be invaluable.
I chose these markers specifically after receiving a set from a student as a gift. The kids love the smell and how big they write. Please help me get my students the tools they need, to show me they understand what's going on in class! They love making posters, and so do I. Now it's time to get the markers!
