We are a community of fourth graders, within the School District of Philadelphia, who are very eager to learn.
Our classroom consists of 32 students, a few of which receive special education services, as well as students who are struggling, English-speaking learners.
Being an urban school setting, 100% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunches which means many of my students do not have the resources or tools at home to help reinforce their learning.
Research shows that people remember 20% of what they hear, 30% of what they see, and 50% of what they hear AND see. A guided reading table with a dry erase top will allow us to explore skills and concepts in a more concrete way. This will give my students that extra boost they need.
My Project
At a guided reading table, a special type of learning occurs. Imagine the possibilities when you can freely draw and write out your thoughts, questions, and wonderings on this table. Research shows small group learning is more beneficial than whole group learning.
With a marker top activity table, I will be able to meet with my students in small flexible groups to work on different financial literacy skills.
Students will be able meet in small groups, and tackle common skills and goals. It is important that students are placed in a group where they will have a maximum potential for success. I provide support, but the ultimate goal is independence. With a marker top activity table, I will be better equipped to help my students reach this ultimate goal.
