This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Mariachi music is a powerful representation of Mexican heritage — a heritage many of our students and families share. With 66% of students at school identifying as Hispanic, learning and performing mariachi music offers a meaningful way for students to connect with their roots, fostering pride in who they are. For others, it’s an opportunity to expand their cultural horizons and develop a deeper appreciation for the world around them.

Mariachi isn’t just music — it’s an experience meant to be shared.

School performances, community events, and district showcases become opportunities to bring families together and strengthen our vibrant community. To make this vision a reality, we need instruments. Mariachi instrumentation differs from traditional band and orchestra programs — we need guitars, and no mariachi is complete without its heartbeat: the guitarrón. With Title I funding being cut in Utah public schools, we’re turning to the generous supporters of Donors Choose to help bring this program to life.

Together, we can create a lasting legacy of opportunity — empowering our students to stand tall, play loud, and feel proud of who they are and where they come from. Will you help us make this vision a reality?
