Marching To The Beat Of Our Drums

My students need a new bass drum to replace our current 22" drum that is over 20 years old.

My Students

We are faced with decreased funding in the performing arts over the past five years. It has been very difficult to secure quality instruments that are completely functional.

Our band has awesome students who are conscientious, dedicated, diligent, and have tremendous pride in their band and take it as privilege and honor to represent their school and community.

We encourage each other to be the best in performance that we can be as we believe the name on the back of our uniform (our school) is who we play for. We strive each to day to live up to our traditions and give our school and community a musical group of which they can be proud.

My Project

We have never made an initiative to purchase all new percussion in a single year because of the cost. Ten years ago our program received a donation of marching percussion that was approximately 10 years old and was purchased at a yard sale held by a local university. It had seen its better days then, and we have had to work to keep it in performance order. The tension rods, shells, and rims are wearing down over time, affecting the sound and the appeal of students wanting to play them. We hope to continue this process of replacing our drums in small parts at a time in the hopes we can secure all new equipment over a four year period.

Imagine if a football team had 46 players, but only had 44 helmets and pads?

Doesn't matter right? Those last two guys may not be fit to play. In band we don't have second string that gets in after the varsity. We have first string from Senior to 7th Grade. Everybody plays - everybody contributes. Having the proper equipment so that everyone can contribute is essential.
