Marching for Justice: Inspiring Young Voices Through Books and Reflection

Help me give my students text about Ruby Bridges, tools for understanding social justice, and journals to reflect on their learning as they explore what it means to stand up for fairness and use their voices for change.

FULLY FUNDED! Dr. Lee-Angry's classroom raised $573

My Project

My students are full of potential, purpose, and questions about the world around them. As we build critical reading, writing, and thinking skills, I want to give them access to powerful texts and tools that help them see themselves as changemakers—just like Ruby Bridges.

Through this project, students will explore "The Story of Ruby Bridges" and "She Persisted: Ruby Bridges" to learn how one brave young girl helped change the world.

They’ll compare her courage to children in Let the Children March and then reflect on their own voices and values. Each student will receive a journal to write responses, reflections, and even create posters as we prepare for a classroom “march for justice.”

We’ll also use The Young Activist’s Dictionary of Social Justice to introduce vocabulary and real-world concepts like fairness, inclusion, and equity—laying the foundation for lifelong critical thinking and compassionate citizenship.
