March to the Music

My students need 2 sets of rhythm instruments, a CD player and a cassette player with adapters for each, and a Getting to Know Myself CD by Hap Palmer.

Kindergarten children LOVE to march to the MUSIC! I teach kindergarten in a school with a majority of students learning English as a second language. Seventy percent of the students are on free or reduced lunch. The children are having their first experience in a school environment.

The children love to sing songs and use instruments in their Music Class. They have a regular music class for 45 minutes every ten school days. I noticed that they learned songs quickly and they enjoyed using musical instruments. Learning songs and music helps the children with auditory memory. Auditory memory will help the children with literacy skills. My classroom has no musical instruments. I want to foster more learning by adding rhythm instruments.

The students will learn the names of the rhythm instruments and have ample time to touch and play them. The children will march and move with the instruments as they listen to the Getting to Know Myself CD. They will also have time to take a student cassette player or CD player home and listen and play the instruments.

You will make it possible for my students to have more quality access to rhythm instruments and music. They will experience music and movement on a higher level.
